PHILADEPLPHIA, Pa. - The George Mason softball team (12-10, 3-3 A-10) dropped their final game of the series 5-2 to Saint Joseph's (7-13, 3-3 A-10) on Sunday afternoon.
For the first inning and a half, the Patriots and the Hawks were able to get each other out in their respective parts of the inning in four batters or less.
Saint Joseph's got hot in the bottom of the second inning scoring three runs on a three-run home run to take the 3-0 advantage over the Patriots.
The Hawks added one more run to their column in the bottom of the third inning off a solo home run, now leading 4-0.
Mason was able to get on the board in the top of the fourth inning after senior
Taylor Dadig and junior
Maddy Myers hit singles to put runners on base. Sophomore
Marlaina Bozek hits a single down the left field line to bring the run home.
The Patriots score one more in the top of the fifth inning after sophomore
Sydney Bales led off the inning with a double over to third base. Bales then put herself in scoring position after advancing to third base off a wild pitch. Senior
EJ Bankson then hit a double of her own to advance Bales home.
Saint Joseph's sealed their fate after adding a fifth run to their total in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI single.
Sophomore
Carly Cooper earned the start and the loss after pitching two of the innings in today's game. Graduate student
Cheyenne Van Pelt then relieved Cooper to pitch 3.1 innings. Freshman
Alexandra Anderson pitched 0.2 innings to close out the game.
UP NEXT
The Patriots will host UMBC for a doubleheader on Wednesday Mar. 23 with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
