Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated Slippery Rock today to complete the sweep at the PTR Springfest on Hilton Head Island this week.
Mason defeated Lehigh, Colgate and Slippery Rock during spring break to improve to 8-3 this season.
"This was a great way to wrap up our undefeated week at Springfest," said Head Coach Steve Curtis.
The Patriots swept the doubles matches to get on the scoreboard first. The Green and Gold won four of the six singles matches to earn the 5-2 win.
The Patriots won the next two matches at the top two singles positions to go up 3-0. Top singles player
Paige La defeated the Rock's Lois Page, 6-2, 6-4.
Grace Hashiguchi defeated Slippery Rock's A. Gonzalez Sanchez, 6-4, 6-3.
Slippery Rock got on the board with a singles wins at No. 3 and No. 5 to tighten the score, 3-2. Freshman
Lauren Splett clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles. Ahsley Fitz-Patrick added the final point for the Patriots.
Mason will next play at Richmond on Friday, March 25 at the Westhampton Tennis Complex at 2 pm.
