Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The George Mason University men's tennis team (4-2) continued its strong spring break play with a 4-3 victory over Colgate (5-5) Thursday morning in the Palmetto State.
The Patriots once again started strong by winning the doubles point. Then, in singles, Mason won three of the first four matches to claim the team's third-straight win.
"The guys battled through some adversity with injuries today but found a way to pull out a tough match," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "We are looking more resilient with each match we get under our belts. We're excited at a chance to find a new gear tomorrow."
In doubles, the Patriots won two of three matches. The No. 1 duo of senior
Rishab Sardana and junior
Faisal Alrebdi took the win, 6-3. Then, junior
Momin Khan and senior
Michael Pollatos clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 over Colgate's Thomas/Israel duo.
In singles, Mason moved to a 2-0 lead with a
Rithik Sardana triumph at No. 2. He won his first set over Gupta of Colgate, 7-6. He then powered past Gupta in the second set, 6-2. Sardana is now 4-2 in dual singles this season.
Mason made it 3-0 after Alrebdi won at No. 4. He took the first set over Colgate's Romig, 6-2. Then in the second, he road a break to a 6-4 victory.
After Colgate took the win at No. 1 to cut the Mason lead to 3-1, the Patriots clinched the victory at No. 3, courtesy of Khan. The junior won his first set, 6-1, then won in the second over Colgate's Thomas, 6-4.
Mason wraps up its spring break trip on Friday with a 12:30 p.m. contest vs. Fairfield.
