FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team hosts Quinnipiac for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, with the first pitch for game one scheduled for 11 a.m. at Spuhler Field.
Mason is facing Quinnipiac for the first time in program history.
Last time out, Mason (5-7) fell to Wake Forest, 14-2, on Wednesday at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Freshman pitcher
Britt Yount allowed two unearned runs in three innings of work in his first collegiate start. Senior designated hitter
Scott Morgan hit his first home run of the season, and freshman center fielder
Brett Ahalt also drove in a run in the game.
The Patriots are 2-2 over the last four games.
Ahalt is batting .455 (15-for-33) with two doubles, one home run, five RBI and five runs scored in 11 games played.
Junior INF/OF
South Trimble has a .396 average (19-for-48) with three doubles, five RBI and 10 runs scored in 12 starts. He leads the team in hits (19) and stolen bases (8), and is second in runs scored (10).
Freshman catcher
Connor Dykstra is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with two home runs, six RBI and 11 runs scored in 11 starts behind the plate. He leads the team in runs scored (11) and hit by pitch (6).
Sophomore second baseman
Brett Stallings is batting .273 (12-for-44) with two doubles, eight RBI and five runs scored in 12 starts on the right side of the infield. He is second on the club in RBI (8), and third in hits (12) and stolen bases (4).
The Patriots have a team batting average of .259 through 12 games.

Jared Lyons (2-0, 2.95) leads the club in innings pitched (21.1) and is second in strikeouts (20) in three starts. Graduate student

ABOUT THE PATRIOTS

Mason is scheduled to play 56 games, including 24 against Atlantic 10 Conference rivals, and four opponents that made a NCAA Regional appearance last season.
The Patriots played seven games on the road in February, and will play 18 games in March, 19 games in April and 12 contests in May.
Mason went 10-13 at home in 2021, including a mark of 7-9 against A-10 opponents.
The Patriots play 11 of their first 13 games in March at Spuhler Field.
The Patriots are scheduled to play 11 games at home and seven on the road in April. In the final month of the regular season, Mason will play eight of 12 games on the road in May.
The Patriots will play four home-and-home series during the 2022 season, taking on James Madison, Longwood, Maryland and William & Mary for single games at home and on the road.
Mason plays eight league series, four at home and four on the road.
Home series against A-10 foes include three-game weekend sets against VCU (April 1-3), Saint Louis (April 15-17), Fordham (April 22-24) and George Washington (May 13-15).
The Patriots will visit Saint Joseph's (April 8-10), Massachusetts (April 29-May 1), Richmond (May 6-8) and Davidson (May 19-21).
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Quinnipiac finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 7-21, with all games against MAAC opponents. The Bobcats went 4-6 at home and 3-15 on the road last season.
Quinnipiac has a record of 2-7 through their first nine games of the 2022 campaign.
The Bobcats are playing their first 21 games of the season on the road, and won't play a home game until April 1, when they host Canisius in Hamden, Conn.
Last weekend, the Bobcats went 1-2 on the road at James Madison, winning the opener against the Dukes, 8-2, before dropping the final two games, 6-4 and 19-1.
Senior INF/OF Kyle Maves is batting .393 (11-for-28) with four RBI and eight runs scored in eight starts. He leads the team in average, walks (7) and stolen bases (7), and is second in hits (11). Maves hit a career-best .271 in 21 games last season.
Junior outfielder Anthony Donofrio has a .385 average (15-for-39) with four doubles, one home run, nine RBI and 10 runs scored in nine starts. He leads the team in hits (15), RBI (9) and runs scored (10).
Junior C/OF Danny Melnick is hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored in seven starts. He is second on the team in RBI (8) and tied for third in hits (10).
On the mound, junior Kevin Seitter (0-1, 6.88) leads the club in innings pitched (17.0) and is second in strikeouts (13) in three starts. Junior Brandyn Garcia (1-2, 8.36) leads the team in strikeouts (15) and is second in innings pitched (14.0).
