Patriots Travel to Howard for Mid-Week Tilt

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse will travel across the Potomac River on March 2 for a Wednesday afternoon match with the Howard Bison. Opening draw begins at 3 p.m. on the Washington, D.C. campus.

The Series
This is the first meeting between the two programs.

Last Time Out
A late offensive surge late by East Carolina doomed the George Mason women's lacrosse team as the visiting Pirates defeated the Patriots, 16-10, on a windy night at George Mason Stadium. The match was tied up at 10-10 in the first-ever meeting between the Pirates and Patriots when ECU strung together six straight goals to end the contest. Six of the Pirates goals were in a man-up situation, including three of their last four goals. Mason's Ioanna Mantzouratos led the team with four points (3/1), two of the goals in the first period, including a buzzer-beater. Shannon Tuozzo, Morgan Gunn, and Olivia O'Brien each had two goals.

Shannon Tuozzo leads the Patriots with 13 points (9/4).
Olivia O'Brien leads the Patriots with 11 goals (11/0) and draw controls (21).
Ioanna Mantzouratos has 10 points (7/3). The grad student led the team with four points (3/1) in the last match vs. ECU (2/25).
The Patriots goalkeeper Fiona Rickles had 15 saves in last outing vs. East Carolina (2/25).
Mason's Olivia O'Brien (3/0) and Lauren Distad (3/1) led the Patriots with three goals each against American (2/23).

Scouting Howard
Howard University women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season, knocking off crosstown rival University of District of Columbia (UDC), 14-8, at Greene Stadium. Freshman Taylor Matthews (Tampa, Fla.) had a match-high three goals in the win.

Challenging Non-Conference Slate
The 2022 schedule includes games against opponents from six conferences outside of the nine-match Atlantic 10 schedule. The Patriots will host nine contests at George Mason Stadium and play opponents from the Pac-12, Big East, ACC, American, Patriot League and the NEC during the non-conference.
