Burke, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated Delaware State, 5-2, Saturday evening at Burke Racquet and Swim Club.
Mason won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches to improve to 3-3. The win marks the third straight against Delaware State in the all-time series.
"This was a very good team win," Head Coach Steve Curtis. "We are starting to put into match play the things we have been working on."
In doubles action, the Green and Gold's No. 2 and No. 3 teams secured 6-2 wins to earn the point.
The Patriots earned two-set wins in the four singles matches, No. 2 and Nos. 4-6. Grad student
Grace Hashiguchi won her match, 6-4, 6-4 against the Hornets Daria Jula at No. 2 singles. Senior
Ashley Fitz-Patrick is 2-0 against Delaware State, winning 6-3, 6-3, against Iris Leder.
Jackie Nannery is 3-0 lifetime against the Hornets after she edged Baluck Deang, 7-6, 6-3. In No. 6 singles,
Lauren Splett defeated Delaware State, Samara Guillory, 6-2, 6-3.
Next up for Mason is a morning match against Coppin State on Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m.
