SPARTANBURG, S.C. – George Mason senior starter
Jared Lyons was dominant in a complete-game, 10 strikeout performance, in a 4-1 win over Boston College on Saturday afternoon at the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic at Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
Lyons kept the Eagles off-balance and allowed just six baserunners over the first six innings. He struck out the side in the fourth.
Boston College (2-3) freshman starter Eric Schroeder also turned in a quality start, allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.
The game remained scoreless going to the bottom of the seventh.
Boston College senior first baseman Ramon Jimenez led off the seventh with a walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, junior center fielder Barry Walsh singled to center, with Jimenez racing around to score to put the Eagles in front, 1-0.
Mason (3-3) responded in the top of the eighth against Boston College relievers Joey Ryan and Brendan Coffey.

Brett Ahalt led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore second baseman

Daniel Brooks stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and singled up the middle to plate Ahalt with the game-tying run.

Danny Hosley then knocked in a pair of runs with a single to right field, with pinch-runner
Yogie Hartigan and Trimble scrambling home to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead.

Kamron Smith dropped down a sacrifice bunt, with Pracht scoring from third to make it 4-2.
Lyons slammed the door, allowing just one baserunner over the last two frames to record his third career complete-game.
Mason pitching has allowed only three runs over the first two games at the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic. The Patriots faced Boston College for the first time in program history.
For the Patriots, Lyons (1-0) allowed four hits, three singles and a double. He struck out 10 batters, eight swinging, threw 113 total pitches and held Boston College 1-for-13 with runners on base.
For the Eagles, Schroeder allowed one hit and struck out four with one walk in 4.0 innings in a no-decision. Ryan gave up one run on three hits in 3.1 innings, while Coffey (0-1) surrendered three runs and didn't retire a batter in the eighth inning and took the loss.
Hosley went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Ahalt was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Trimble and Pracht each scored a run.
With inclement weather in the forecast for Sunday, the Patriots will now wrap up the weekend on Saturday evening against USC Upstate, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
