Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, S.C. - The George Mason softball team (3-3) split their two contests on Friday in Greenville, S.C. at the Greenville Showdown.

The Patriots earned a 6-0 win against the Gaels of Iona before falling 8-0 in six innings to the Furman Paladins.

Game 1: Iona (0-2) vs. Mason (3-2)
In game one, the Patriots started strong, scoring two runs in just the first inning. Mason earned the runs off an RBI single from sophomore Marlaina Bozek and an RBI walk from junior Rachel Warrens.

Junior Maddy Myers earned the Patriots a run in the bottom of the second inning off an RBI double down the infield line. Mason was unsuccessful in a scoring attempt in the third inning.

To add to their total, the Patriots were able to score one run in each of the last three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, senior Taylor Dadig hit an RBI single to advance a runner home.

Warrens and Bozek each tallied one more RBI in the game, earning the sole runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively.

Mason made for quick work in the top of the innings due to the pitching efforts from sophomore Carly Cooper. The Patriots were able to end four out of the seven innings in three batters or less. Cooper, who faced 22 at-bats, recorded only three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in the win.

Senior EJ Bankson went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the win against the Gaels. Not far behind, Bozek went 3-for-4 at the plate while tallying two RBI's.

Game 2: Mason (3-3) vs. Furman (4-7)

In the second contest, the Patriots were unable to garner any offensive momentum against the Paladins.

Furman started the game strong by a run off a home run just two batters into the first inning. In the second inning, the Paladins were able to capitalize on a Patriots throwing error to add another run to their side of the column.

Mason was able to regroup in the third inning, not allowing the Paladins to earn a run before giving up five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Graduate transfer Cheyenne Van Pelt faced two batters in the fourth inning before being relieved by freshman Alexandra Anderson. Anderson entered the game with bases loaded and no outs.

The Paladins advance their lead to 7-0 and were able to close the game out in six innings after scoring the eighth run off a fielder's choice that led to an RBI.

In three innings pitched, Van Pelt allowed five hits and three walks despite recording five strikeouts. Anderson allowed four hits, two walks, and a strikeout in the 2.1 innings pitched. Junior Maddy Myers tallied the Patriots lone hit of the match.
