FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team welcomes American to George Mason Stadium for its home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The match will commence the team's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX. George Mason alum Liz Robertshaw will be recognized at halftime for her tremendous contributions to the sport. An ILWCA and USWLA All-America selection, Robertshaw was a four-time All-CAA pick for the Patriots. In November 2019, Robertshaw was named as the new executive director of the IWLCA, where she continues to foster the growth and development of the sport she loves.

The Series
Mason owns an 18-3 record in the all-times series with American. The Patriots won the last matchup with the Eagles, 13-10, on Feb. 27, 2019 on the Washington, D.C. campus. The Patriots are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between the two programs.

Last Time Out
The George Mason women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow start against Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (2/12). Navy jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Mason got on the scoreboard, and a seven-goal second stanza increased the lead to 9-3 at the half. Mason (0-2) played the Mids (2-0) even in the second-half, 5-5, dropping the match, 14-8.

Patriot Points
Shannon Tuozzo leads the Patriots with eight points (5/3), followed by Olivia O'Brien with six (6/0). Grad student Olivia O'Brien scored a career-high four goals at Navy, including the final three goals of the match. O'Brien also lead the Patriots with four draw controls.

Scouting American
American comes to Fairfax with an 0-2 record, having lost matches to Georgetown and UMBC. Graduate student Emma Vinall leads the Eagles with nine points (8/1). She reached 189 draw controls in her career against UMBC to move to the top of the AU leaderboard in that category. She was already first in goals and points, and now has 167 goals. In the last meeting between the Patriots and Eagles, Vinall scored six goals in the match in 2019.

Honored Alum
Since her time at Mason, Robertshaw has served as one of the sport's most prominent ambassadors. A 15-year head coach at Boston University, Robertshaw led the Terriers to six America East titles and six NCAA appearances. She also served as an eight-year assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team and led the program to two gold medals. In November 2019, Robertshaw was named as the new executive director of the IWLCA, where she continues to foster the growth and development of the sport she loves.

One of the fiercest defensive players in Mason history, Robertshaw started 65 games for the women's lacrosse program from 1995-98. An ILWCA and USWLA All-America selection, Robertshaw was a four-time All-CAA pick for the Patriots. She ranks third all-time at Mason in ground balls and is seventh in caused turnovers. She was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's Silver Anniversary Team to recognize her extraordinary career.

Roster Bolstered
Mason returns junior Chloe Reed to the line-up. The A-10 All-Rookie Team selection started 15 games for the Patriots as a sophomore. She closed out the season with 16 goals and two assists for a total of 18 points. The Patriots 2022 roster boasts four transfers. The talented group includes two former Hartford student-athletes: goalkeeper Emma Privitera and midfielder Shannon Tuozzo, Second-Team All-SoCon goalkeeper Meghan Deehan, and former George Washington attack Ioanna Mantzouratos.

Challenging Non-Conference Slate
The 2022 schedule includes games against opponents from six conferences outside of the nine-match Atlantic 10 schedule. The Patriots will host nine contests at George Mason Stadium and play opponents from the Pac-12, Big East, ACC, American, Patriot League and the NEC during the non-conference.

Next Up
The team will remain at home for a Friday afternoon match against East Carolina on Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.
