Annapolis, Md. -- The George Mason women's tennis team fell to Navy, 7-0, at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.
Navy (9-1) got on the board with a sweep of the doubles matches. Two of the six singles matches needed a tiebreaker set, but the Mids prevailed in all six matches. Mason drops to 2-3 on the season.
Top singles player
Paige La rebounded after a 6-2 setback in the first set to win the second, 6-4, and force a tiebreaker set.
Grad student
Grace Hashiguchi playing in the No. 2 singles position for the first time in a Patriots uniform, went to the tiebreaker set with Navy's Casey Accola. After winning the first set 7-5, Accola edged Hashiguchi, 6-4, in the second set before taking the tiebreaker set and the point.
Both the No. 4 and 5 singles matches were well contested. Navy's Corinne Farid edged Mason's
Brianna Gibbs in two sets, 7-6(3), 7-5. In the fifth singles position the Mids Kate Lee narrowly got by
Ashley Fitz-Patrick, 7-5, 6-4.
Mason returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 26. The Patriots host Delaware State at Burke Racquet and Swim Club at 6:45 p.m.
