Eugene, Ore. – In the season opener for both teams, host Oregon defeated Mason, 14-11, this afternoon at Papé Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The Action
- George Mason struck first with two straight goals and led 3-1 after the first period. Junior Shannon Tuozzo scored a goal and assisted on the second. Senior Phoebe Nelson and grad student Olivia O'Brien each notched a goal.
- The Patriots scored back-to-back goals midway through the second to take its biggest lead of the match, 5-2, but Oregon would score six unanswered goals to lead 6-5 at halftime and take an 8-5 lead with 9:06 left in the third period.
- With only one second remaining in the third, Mason's Chloe Reed scored to cut the Ducks lead to two, 9-7, heading into the final stanza.
- Oregon opened the fourth period with four consecutive goals to take its biggest lead to six goals, 13-7, with 7:54 remaining.
- Mason battled back to finish the match scoring four of the final five goals led by Tuozzo's three goals and an assist.
- The Patriots had a slight edge in shots, 26-24, and shots on goals, 20-19.
- Oregon was efficient on clears with 14-of-17, while Mason went 8-of-14.
- The Ducks had nine saves compared to five for Mason.

- Junior Shannon Tuozzo made a noteworthy debut in a Mason uniform with four goals and three assists. The transfer from Hartford scored 12 goals and seven assists as a sophomore for Hartford.
- Junior Chloe Reed continued her presence as an offensive threat, scoring two goals and two assists in the match.
