Fairfax, Va. – George Mason's Women's Track and Field runner Marisa Santamauro has been awarded The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award. OrthoVirginia is the proud sponsor of our Student Achiever Award which recognizes 10 student-athletes for, not only their athletic accomplishments, but also how they perform in the classroom and in service to our community.
 
Marisa is a junior from Howell, N.J. who is majoring in kinesiology. She has been recognized as a Peter N. Sterns Provost Scholar Athlete, the highest academic award for student-athletes at George Mason University. Marisa has also made the Dean's list for four straight semesters and has been recognized twice on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. 
 
Marisa currently holds the role as the Vice President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also an ambassador for George Mason's Kinesiology Program and for "Morgan's Message" an organization committed to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and expand the dialogue and normalize conversations. 
 
When Marissa is not serving her community as an ambassador, she is volunteered at the Salvation Army assisting with different activities.

The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student-athletes not just for their athletic performances. The student-athlete can be recognized for anything that they have done that exceptional outside their playing field… whether it be community service, leadership on campus, consistent performance in the classroom, incredible attitude, recovering from a long injury, improvement on the field, etc.
