Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team swept Bloomsburg and Gardner-Webb today at the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).

Mason improves to 5-0 in duals to open the 2022-23 season. 

In the opening match, Mason defeated Bloomsburg University, 28-15. The Patriots have won four straight against the Huskies and seven of the last eight matches.

After Nate Higley (149) tied the match at 9-9 with a fall against William Morrow, the Patriots won five straight matches. 

The second match was a back-and-fourth battle with Gardner-Webb with the Patriots prevailing, 22-10. With the win Mason ties the all-time series at 3-3. 

The Runnin' Bulldogs won the first two matches to take an early 7-0 lead. The Patriots won the next three matches by decision to go up 10-7 halfway through the match. GW would tie the match at 10-10 with a win at 165 before Mason won out the final four matches to win.

Grad Student Peter Pappas won both matches of his matches tonight by major decision to improve to 8-1 this season. Sophomore Logan Messer won both matches by decision. He owns a team-leading 12 wins this season (12-2) and is 29-9 overall at Mason.

Jonathan List won two matches at two different weight classes. List defeated Bloomsburg's Tanner Culver at 197 and GWU's Peyton McComas at 285.
