Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team dominated American University in a 23-15 win at the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC) on Alumni Day. Mason improves to 6-0 in dual action, matching its best start since the 2000-01 season.
The match began at the 125 pound class. Freshman
Markel Baker improved to 12-6 with a 4-2 decision over the Eagles Raymond Lopez.
Anthony Glasl won by tech fall against AU's Ethan Szercencsits, 16-1 to give the Patriots an 8-3 lead.
The Patriots would increase the lead to 14-3 after decisions by Nate Higley (149) and
Peter Pappas (157). Pappas is now 13-1 on the season.
American earned a win at 165 pounds when Caleb Campos defeated Mason's
Drew Dickson, 5-4.
Logan Messer won his 11th straight match after defeating the Eagles Lucas White, 4-0. The sophomore leads the Patriots in wins with 16 (16-2). In two seasons, Messer owns an impressive 43-11 mark.
Malachi Duvall earned his fourth fall on the season against AU's Colin Shannon, his 12th win of the season.
American won the final two matches, but the Patriots prevailed 23-15.
