FAIRFAX, Va. – Four members of the George Mason wrestling team competed at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga this weekend.

Alex Madrigal advanced to the semifinals at 149 pounds and finished in sixth place. The grad student earned a major decision, 17-7, against Bellermine's Mitch Collica in the Round of 32 and a fall against Drexel's Tyler Williams (1:49) to advance in the championship bracket. Madrigal earned a 9-5 decision against Chris Sandoval from Northern Colorado in the quarterfinals. Missouri's Josh Edmond, ranked #22 by Intermat, and pre-seeded No. 2, defeated Madrigal, 9-3 in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket, Madrigal withdrew with a medical forfeit. He improves to 13-2.
The Patriots will be on the road for most of January wrestle next on Friday, Jan. 7 at the David Lehman Open in Lancaster, Pa.
