FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's lacrosse head coach
Kara Mupo has announced that three transfer student-athletes will join the Patriot roster beginning in fall 2021.
The talented group includes two former Hartford student-athletes: goalkeeper Emma Privitera and midfielder Shannon Tuozzo, Mason also will welcome former George Washington attack Ioanna Mantzouratos to Fairfax.
"We could not be more excited to welcome Shannon, Emma and Ioanna to our program and Mason Nation," Mupo said. "As we continue to push towards national prominence, we feel as though each of these student-athletes brings a specific skill set on the field, as well as experience and leadership off the field, that will continue to help us move the needle in year two."
Mantzouratos started all 12 contests for the Colonials this past season and led the squad in goals (23). She also ranked second on the team in points (31) and third in assists (8) while tallying an impressive .760 shot percentage on the season. The March 16 A-10 Player of the Week, Mantzouratos garnered the honor after a season-best five-goal performance vs. American on March 10. In four seasons as a Colonial, she notched 103 career points (69g, 34a) and started 33 of 34 contests.
Privitera last competed for Hartford during the 2020 campaign, when she saw action In a team-best 279:41 in the cage. The then-sophomore made 76 saves and registered a solid .458 save percentage in seven total games. As a freshman in 2019, Privitera earned the lion's share of minutes in goal for the Hawks, starting 10 of 13 games while making 146 saves in 616:31 of action. She notched an excellent .471 save percentage during her rookie campaign.
Tuozzo recently completed her sophomore season in the Nutmeg State, where she recorded a career-best 19 points (12g, 7a) in just nine games. In addition to ranking second on her Hawks squad in points, Tuozzo led the team in draw controls (39) while also picking up 14 ground balls on the year. As a freshman in 2020, she tallied nine points (5g, 4a) and an impressive 30 draw controls in just seven contests. She started all 16 games of her Hartford career.
