FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason cross country student-athletes
Thomas Amabile and
Annabelle Eastman were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday.
Amabile, a rehabilitation science major, boasts a GPA of 3.98.
The Chesapeake, Va., native placed 20th in the five-mile race at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships. He ran a course-best time of 25:12.3 and was one of five top-20 finishers for the Patriots.
Amabile helped the Mason men finish third overall for their highest team finish since winning the league title in 2014.
Off the trail, he was named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Eastman, a native of Melbourne, Australia, earns her first A-10 All-Academic honor after an impressive 2020-21 season. The kinesiology major boasts a GPA of 3.83.
She ran the second-fastest time ever at the A-10 Championships, finishing runner up in the 5k, to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA meet. It marked Mason women's cross country's sixth-ever national qualifier, and the first since 1996.
She finished 83rd at the NCAA Championships, running a personal-best time of 21:23.8 in the 6k. She improved 39 spots from the 2000m-mark (122nd) to the finish line (83rd).
Off the course, she was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
The Academic All-Conference teams comprise six student-athletes who were selected based on their performance on the trails, as well as in the classroom. To be nominated, runners must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.
