FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason junior
Jared Lyons was named Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team starting pitcher and to the A-10 All-Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday.
Lyons, a native of Springfield, Va., finished the season with a 6-2 record and 3.73 ERA. He won five of his last seven starts. He's the first Mason baseball player to earn First Team and All-Academic honors in the same season since the Patriots joined the league in 2014.
Among A-10 leaders during the 2021 season, Lyons ranked second in lowest opponent batting average (.192), tied for third in wins (6), fourth in both innings pitched (72.1) and strikeouts (76), eighth in ERA (3.73), and tied for the fourth-most complete games in the league (2).
Lyons pitched at least 6.0 innings in eight of his 12 starts. He went 4-1 with a 2.97 ERA in six starts against A-10 opponents and held A-10 opponents to a 1.69 batting average. Lyons recorded 37 strikeouts in 36.1 innings against league opponents.
Lyons, a rehabilitation science major, was selected Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for week ending May 10, after tossing a complete-game, one-hitter in an 11-1 win over George Washington in a game that was stopped by rule.
The 12-member All-Conference First Team, the 12-member All-Conference Second Team and the 12-member All-Rookie Team were selected by a vote of the 13 Atlantic 10 head coaches. The 12-member All-Academic Team was chosen by the league's baseball communications directors.
