Cam Reckling and sophomore shortstop
Brett Stallings each hit a home run, while graduate student starter
Ryan Stoudemire pitched into the eighth inning in the Patriots 6-5 win over Richmond on Thursday at Spuhler Field.

Mason (13-27, 6-15 A-10) took the lead in the first inning against Richmond (17-16, 3-10 A-10) freshman starter Alden Mathes.

With two outs, senior right fielder
Bailey Klein singled, stole second and moved to third on a balk. Senior first baseman
Scott Morgan followed with a RBI-double to the gap in right-center to put the Patriots in front 1-0.

The Spiders tied the game in the top of the third. Richmond graduate student second baseman Rich Ciufo doubled with one-out, and crossed the plate on a throwing error to even the score, 1-1.

The Patriots responded in the home half of the inning.

Sophomore center fielder
South Trimble led off with a walk before Reckling stepped to the plate and smashed his third home run of the season, a no-doubter over the left-center field fence to make it 3-1 Mason.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Patriots extended the lead to 4-1 when Stallings hit his second home run of the season, a lead-off solo shot over the left field fence. Stallings has homered in two straight games.

After two scoreless innings, Richmond manufactured a run in the top of the seventh. With one out, graduate student center fielder Wyatt Ulrich dropped down a bunt single and junior third baseman Dominic Toso singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Freshman shortstop Jared Sprague-Lott drove in Ulrich with a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-2 game.

In the top of the eighth, the Spiders put runners on first and second with a single and a walk with one out, with the Patriots making the call to the bullpen for graduate student
Jonathan Kaiser. Richmond senior left fielder Anthony Forte gave Spiders a 5-4 lead with a three-run home run to right-center.

Stoudemire, who had a solid outing on the mound, led off the bottom of the eighth with a single before leaving the game for pinch-runner
Jackson Barrett. With one out, Stallings reached on an error, with Barrett moving to third on the play.Â

Trimble scratched out an infield single to third, with Barrett racing home to tie the score, 5-5. Â After a walk to Reckling loaded the bases, Klein drew a walk to force in Stallings with the eventual winning run to make it 6-5.

Junior reliever
Matthew Henson closed out the game in the ninth, striking out two of the batters he faced in the inning for the save.

For the Patriots, Stoudemire allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits in a season-high 7.1 innings in a no-decision. Kaiser (2-2) gave up a run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning to earn his second win. Henson picked up his second save of the season.

Stallings went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and scored two runs. Reckling went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk. Trimble and Hayes each had two hits in the game.

The Patriots and Spiders continue the series with a seven-inning doubleheader on Friday. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Spuhler field.
