DAYTON, Ohio – The George Mason baseball team dropped both games of a seven-inning doubleheader against VCU on Saturday, 3-1 in game one and 8-1 in the night cap, at The Diamond in Richmond, Va.
GAME ONE
The Patriots (9-20, 2-8 A-10) fell behind VCU (25-14, 6-3 A-10) in the second inning. Rams freshman shortstop Connor Hujsak hit a two-run home run off of Patriots freshman starter
Kieran Versaw-Barnes to put VCU in front 2-0.
Versaw-Barnes was forced to leave the game with an injury in the third inning, with junior
Mason Posey taking over on the mound.
Rams sophomore starter Danny Watson allowed just two singles over the first four and two-thirds, before turning the game over to sophomore reliever Evan Chenier.
In the top of the sixth, Mason senior designated hitter
Scott Morgan belted his fifth home run of the season to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Rams got the run back in the home half of the inning. Junior catcher Hunter Vay led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Hujsak then drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left for the 3-1 final score.
For the Patriots, Versaw-Barnes (1-5) allowed two runs on six hits in 2.2 innings and took the loss. Posey gave up just one run and one hit in 3.1 innings of work in relief.
For the Rams, Watson (2-4) tossed 4.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Chenier allowed a run on two hits in 2.1 innings and picked up his fifth save of the season.
Morgan's home run was the only extra-base hit in the game for the Patriots.

GAME TWO (7 INNINGS)
Mason (9-21, 2-9 A-10) took the lead in the first inning against VCU (26-14, 8-3 A-10) sophomore starter Maddison Furman.
Trimble led off the game with a walk and senior left fielder
Cam Reckling followed with a double to right, with Trimble racing all the way around to score and put the Patriots up 1-0.
VCU responded with a run in the home half of the first on a RBI-double to tie the game, 1-1.
Mason starter
Austin Cabone retired nine Rams batters in a row from the second through the fourth.
VCU broke the game open in the fifth inning against Cabone and freshman reliever
Sang Ho Baek. The Rams sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on five singles to take a 5-1 lead.
VCU added three runs in the bottom of the sixth, with freshman third baseman Tyler Locklear connecting for a two-run double, for the 8-1 final score.
For the Patriots, Cabone (0-2) allowed five runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings and took the loss. Baek surrendered three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. Senior
Thomas Bradley retired the lone batter he faced to end the sixth.
For the Rams, Furman allowed one run on three hits in 2.1 innings in a no-decision. Freshman Campbell Ellis (4-1) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win, while junior Edwin Serrano pitched 2.0 hitless innings to close the game.
Reckling went 2-for-4 with a double and a single for the Patriots.
The Patriots and Rams wrap up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
