Lacrosse Hosts Revolutionary Rematch with GW Friday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's lacrosse team hosts the second of two matchups with George Washington on Friday night inside George Mason Stadium.
 
First draw between the Patriots and Colonials is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available via GoMason.com
 
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore goalkeeper Fiona Rickels put together an outstanding performance in the cage Sunday at No. 15 Towson to lead the Patriots at Tiger Field. Rickels notched a personal-best 16 saves and tallied a .471 save percentage against one of the nation's top offenses. It marked the most saves by a Patriot in more than a year. The Tigers won the game, 18-5, behind a unforgiving offensive attack in which Towson tallied 48 shots. One of the nation's top teams, the Tigers improved to 7-2 with the victory.
 
LEADERS vs. the 15th-RANKED TIGERS
Junior Deanna Balsama led the Green & Gold offense with two goals on the day, while seniors Christina Romano and Niki Baker, as well as junior Phoebe Nelson also tallied scores for the Patriots. Senior Melissa Capri added a career-best six draw controls to bolster the Mason attack, while fellow senior Olivia O'Brien tallied an assist, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
 
HISTORY vs. GW
Friday's contest marks the 20th all time meeting between Mason and George Washington in lacrosse. The Patriots lead the series, 15-4. In the most recent matchup, the Colonials won 17-10 in the District on March 20. Balsama led Mason with a season-best four goals on the day while registering a pair of draw controls. Baker added a career-best three points on a goal and two assists, while senior Erin Donoghue grabbed a team-best four draw controls while also tallying a goal and an assist.
 
A LOOK AT THE COLONIALS
GW is 4-5 to begin the season, including a 1-3 mark in A-10 play. Senior Joanna Mantzouratos leads the team with 21 points (15g, 6a) while Caite Perkins has notched 19 points (13g, 6a). Perkins also has tallied a team-best 36 draw controls and 23 ground balls. Junior Megan Patrick has registered a 14.44 goals against average and .439 save percentage in 519:34 in the cage.
