Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team hosted George Washington today in a Revolutionary Rivalry match between the two universities. The Colonials won the match 6-1 breaking the Patriots' (5-2) five-match win streak.
George Washington took the doubles point after wins at the top two matches.
In singles action, the Colonials swept through the top half of the Mason line-up. In the top singles position, GW's Stella Wiesemann defeated
Paige La, 6-2, 6-2 to drop La's season record to 5-2.
The Patriots were much more competitive in the second half of the lineup. Sophomore
Ashley Fitz-Patrick won her sixth straight match defeating Lindsay Thompson in the tie-breaker set, 11-9. After cruising 6-1 in the first set, Thompson took the second set, 6-4.
In a contested match-up at No. 4 singles, the Colonials Sarah Bodewes edged
Hannah Yang, 7-5, 6-4.
Mason to host Georgetown on April 9 at 1 p.m.
