Four Patriots Earn Postseason A-10 Accolades

FAIRFAX, Va. – Four George Mason University lacrosse student-athletes have garnered postseason recognition from the Atlantic 10, the league office announced Thursday.
 
Senior Erin Donoghue earned All-A-10 Second Team honors, while sophomore Chloe Reed and freshman Mason Donohue were named to the All-Rookie Team. Donoghue also garnered A-10 All-Academic honors along with junior Deanna Balsama.
 
Donoghue put together an outstanding all-around season foe the Green & Gold. The Mount Laurel, N.J., product led Mason in ground balls (24), ranked second in draw controls (32) and goals (23) and was third in points (24). She also caused seven turnovers on the year. Donoghue proved accurate around the cage all season while tallying an impressive .700 shots on goal percentage and .460 overall shot percentage. Through four seasons, Donoghue is the only player in school history to post 200+ draw controls and 100+ goals in a career.
 
Thursday's honor marks the third time Donoghue has earned All-A-10 accolades in her career. She is just the third three-time All-A-10 selection in school history, joining Alexa McGovern and Kira Greer.
 
Reed, eligible for the All-Rookie Team as a sophomore due to the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, ranked third on the Patriots in goals (16), third in draw controls (20) and t-4th in points (18). She posted a .880 shots on goal percentage and a .450 overall shooting percentage. The Alexandria, Va., product tallied a career-best four goals vs. GW on April 9 and scored in each of the final six contests.
 
Donohue commanded the cage as one of the top rookie goalkeepers in the nation. The Rocky Point, N.Y., native ranked sixth in the nation amongst freshman goalies in saves per game (7.36), seventh in save percentage and eighth in goals against average. Donohue was top-40 nationally in saves (103) and sixth in the A-10 in saves/game (7.36) while improving save percentage significantly to .391 in A-10 games. Donohue posted 10+ saves in four games, notched 13 saves in win at Radford, 10 saves at No. 7 Virginia and 13 saves in a home game vs. GW. Donohue also notched a career-best 17 saves in the April 18 game vs. No. 21 Richmond.
 
In addition to earning All-A-10 Second Team accolades, Donoghue also secured a spot on the All-Academic Team for her combination of athletic and academic prowess. She carries a 3.79 GPA and will graduate in May with a degree in rehabilitation science.
 
Balsama holds a 3.84 GPA and is majoring in criminology, law & society. As a junior, she led the Patriots in points (34) and goals (27) and was third in assists (7). The Sewell, N.J., product ranked second in the A-10 and 11th nationally in free position percentage (.714) She also was fifth in the league in free position goals per game (0.77). Balsama recorded an impressive .710 shots on goal percentage for the 2021 season and a .435 shot percentage. She averaged 4.0 goals/game over the final three games of the season and notched a career-best six goals in the season finale at #21 Richmond.
