FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team has matched its best-ever seed heading into this week's Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Patriots enter the event as the No. 5 seed for the second time (2014).
The Patriots were the No. 6 seed in 2015 and 2019.
Mason will open play in the quarterfinals against No. 4 Davidson on Friday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m. in Orlando, Fla. Live video from each court during the match is available

"Despite having some road blocks in our season due to the pandemic, this team has been resilient and focused on what we can control," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "We have made improvements as the season progressed and we're excited to show what we've worked so hard to accomplish at conferences. We have some fresh doubles teams ready to play, and we feel like we are in top shape and are continuing to improve every day. We're excited for the opportunity to be the No. 5 seed this year and are ready for any challenges that get thrown our way."
Mason competed in eight matches during the 2021 dual season and put together a highly-competitive effort in A-10 play. The Patriots took down 11
th-seeded La Salle, 6-1, in March and went to the wire before being edged by third-seeded Richmond, 4-3. The Patriots also battled with NCAA top-50 program and A-10 No. 1 VCU early in the season.
Sophomore
Rithik Sardana has cemented his place in the top portion of Mason's lineup this season, picking up three victories at No. 1 singles while also partnering with senior
Ryan Charles at No. 1 doubles to post a 5-3 mark.
Brother
Rishab Sardana, a junior, has been outstanding as well, notching a team-best 5-2 singles showing, including a combined 4- record from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Elsewhere in the lineup, sophomore
Momin Khan has picked up four singles wins at the No. 3-5 spots, while fellow sophomore
Herman Jentoft is a perfect 3-0 at No. 5 and No. 6.
With a victory on Friday, Mason would move on to battle top seed VCU on Saturday at 10 a.m.
All matches will be played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
