Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated Delaware State, 5-2, at the Mason Tennis Courts today.
The Patriots were down in doubles action after Delaware State's Iris Leder and Daria Julie took the No. 2 doubles match against
Paige La and
Hannah Yang, 6-3. Mason responded with 7-5 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point.
In the No. 3 doubles,
Savanna Crowell and
Christine McCarthy defeated the Hornets Alina Polyvana and Cassandra Boltman for their fifth straight win.
Francesca Trella and
Jackie Nannery won at No. 1 doubles against Lolita Kozina and Klaudia Lisovska. The Mason doubles team improved to 5-4.
"Another good all-around team win today with a strong showing at No 1 and No. 3 doubles teams to get the first point," said Coach Steve Curtis.
Top singles player
Paige La improved to 7-2 this season with a win against Kozina, 6-2, 6-2. The Patriots would go on to win matches No. 4-6. Senior
Hannah Yang improved to 5-3 with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Jackie Nannery cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and sophomore
Ashley Fitz-Patrick won her eighth straight match with a 6-3, 6-2 win, improving to 8-1.
Mason travels to Richmond on Wednesday for a match with conference foe VCU.
