DAYTON, Ohio – The George Mason baseball team dropped both games of a seven-inning doubleheader against Dayton on Saturday, 11-1 in game one and 12-10 in the night cap, at Woerner Field in Dayton, Ohio.
GAME ONE (7 INNINGS)
The Patriots (9-16, 2-3 A-10) fell behind Dayton (11-24, 1-4 A-10) when junior shortstop Ben Blackwell hit a solo home run to put the Flyers in front 1-0.
Mason evened the score in the top of the third against Dayton graduate student starter Ben Olson.
With one out, senior left fielder
Cam Reckling singled and scored when senior designated hitter
Bailey Klein doubled to left field for the Patriots lone run of the game.
In the bottom of the third, the first three batters reached base for Dayton, forcing Mason to make a pitching change with graduate student
Jonathan Kaiser entering the game. The Flyers scored four runs on four hits in the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Flyers batted around again in the fifth against Mason junior reliever
Matthew Henson and scored four more runs on four hits for a 9-1 advantage. Dayton tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth off of junior
Hugh O'Hara for the 11-1 final.
For the Patriots, Versaw-Barnes (1-4) allowed four runs on six hits in 2.0 innings and took the loss. Kaiser gave up one run on three hits in 1.2 innings. Henson surrendered four runs on four hits in one inning of work. O'Hara allowed two runs on one hit in his one inning.
Mason used five pitchers in the game.
For the Flyers, Olson (2-7) allowed one run on seven hits and struck out eight in the complete game victory.

Jordan Smith and Reckling each had two hits for the Patriots.
GAME TWO (7 INNINGS)
Mason (9-17, 2-5 A-10) took the lead in the first inning against Dayton (13-23, 3-4 A-10) senior starter Cole Pletka.
Sophomore center fielder
South Trimble led off with walk and moved to third on two wild pitches. With two outs, he raced home on the third wild pitch of the inning to put the Patriots up, 1-0.
Dayton responded in the bottom of the inning against Mason senior starter
Austin Cabone, scoring two runs on junior Riley Triotta's two-run single to make it a 2-1 game.
The Flyers scored four runs in the home half of the third on a two-run double by graduate student first baseman Alex Brickman, and a two-run homer by graduate student right fielder Eddie Pursinger to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Patriots got the runs right back in the top of the fourth.

Peter Nielsen, who belted a three-run home run over the right field fence to trim the Flyers lead to 6-4.
Trimble kept the inning going with a single and went all the way to third on a throwing error. He scored of a ground out to make it a one-run game, 6-5.
Dayton plated four runs in the bottom of the inning against junior reliever
Mason Posey, including a two-run home run by Triotta, to go up 10-5.
In the top of the fifth, Trimble had a two-run single, Klein drove in a run with a ground out and the Patriots scored a run on a wild pitch to get back within one, 10-9.
Mason tied the score in the sixth when senior first baseman
Scott Morgan singled and scored on a base hit by Klein.
The Flyers scored two runs against freshman
Sang Ho Baek in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-10 final score.
For the Patriots, Cabone allowed six runs on six hits in 3.0 innings, Posey gave up four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings, and Baek (0-1) surrendered two runs on two hits and took the loss.
For the Flyers, graduate student Justin Longbrake (2-0) tossed one scoreless frame to earn the win. Dayton used seven pitchers in the game.
The Patriots and Flyers wrap up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Woerner Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
