Game Recap: Softball |
DAYTON, OHIO – The George Mason softball team's bats came alive on Saturday, hitting solo home runs in back-to-back-to-back innings.

Despite the offense, Mason would lose both games of the doubleheader. The Patriots fell in the first game by a score of 1-0 and dropped the last game by a score of 6-4.

Mason drops to 9-9 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Flyers improve to 8-6 in conference games.

GAME ONE: Dayton 1, Mason 0
Dayton jumped out to an early one-run lead when Abby Ehrenborg hit her 12th home run of the season in the bottom of the first.

That would be the only run the Flyers needed to beat the Patriots in game one. Mason's bats could not get going, earning just two hits.

Sophomore Annie Villalobos recorded a lead-off single in the top of the fifth inning, while senior Saige Cisler bunted her way on base in the next at-bat. Mason would leave the two runners on base to end the inning.

Graduate student Bekah Ansbro allowed just one earned run on four hits, striking out seven batters in 6.0 innings of work. Ansbro's record is now 6-4 on the season.

GAME TWO: Dayton 6, Mason 4
Mason struck first in game two when junior EJ Bankson drove in sophomore Haley Taormina via a sac fly to left field.

The lead would be short-lived as the Flyers answered in the next half inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Dayton would do the same in the bottom of the second and take a 4-1 lead into the third.

The score would stay the same until the top of the fifth when Taormina blasted her second collegiate home run to dead center field.

Dayton matched the Patriots and scored one in the bottom of the fifth.

Mason would tally another solo home run in the sixth inning, courtesy of Villalobos. Villalobos' third home run of the season gives her the team lead.

The Flyers would once again answer with a run in the bottom of the sixth to keep the lead at three runs (6-3).

In the top of the seventh, sophomore Rachel Warrens notched her second collegiate home run over the left center fence, but it would not be enough as the Patriots fell by a score of 6-4.

Mason launched three homers in the final three innings in the loss.

Senior Haellie Gordon threw 4.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs. Gordon's record is now 7-4 on the year.
