Patriots Set for Four-Game Series Against St. Bonaventure

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team hosts St. Bonaventure for a four-game series, April 2-4, at Spuhler Field.  The first game of the series is Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
Last time out, Mason (4-11, 0-0 A-10) fell at Towson, 6-5, last Sunday at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md.  The Tigers took three-of-four from the Patriots in the weekend series.
 
Mason senior first baseman Scott Morgan hit his fourth home run of the season, left fielder Cam Reckling went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and right fielder Bailey Klein and shortstop Brett Stallings each knocked in a run in the game.
 
Sophomore South Trimble is batting .360 (9-for-25) with two RBI and six runs scored in seven games.  Freshman outfielder Thomas Trinca is hitting .360 (9-for-25) with two doubles, three RBI and four runs scored in seven games. 
 
Morgan is hitting .339 (21-for-62) with four home runs, five doubles, two triples, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in 15 games.  He leads the club in hits, home runs, doubles, triples, RBI, runs scored and total bases (42). 
 
On the mound, junior Jared Lyons (1-1, 4.06, 31.0 IP) and graduate student Ryan Stoudemire (1-4, 5.23, 20.2 IP) share the team lead with five starts each.  Freshman Kieran Versaw-Barnes (0-2, 5.48, 21.1 IP) is second on the club with three starts.
 
The Patriots are hitting .257 and have a team ERA of 6.69 through 15 games.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
 
St. Bonaventure has an overall record of 0-5, including a mark of 0-2 at home and 0-3 on the road.
 
Last time out, the Bonnies dropped both games of a doubleheader to La Salle on Saturday, March 27 at Handler Park in Olean, N.Y.  The Explorers won game one, 6-3, and took the second game, 4-1.
 
Youngstown State swept a three-game series from St. Bonaventure March 20-21 at Eastwood Stadium in Youngstown, Ohio. 
 
The Penguins won both games of a doubleheader, 6-4 and 7-1, on March 20.  Youngstown State collected 21 hits and scored in every inning in the final game of the series for a 22-6 victory on March 21.
 
Junior outfielder Tyler Kelder is hitting .333 (5-for-15) with a home run, two doubles and four runs scored.  Sophomore infielder Branden Myers is batting .333 (5-for-15) with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. 
 
On the mound, senior Donovan Moffat (0-1, 3.46) and junior Elijah Baez (0-2, 6.52) have each started two games this season, while freshman Kyle Caringi (0-0, 3.38) has made two appearances out of the bullpen for the Bonnies.
 
St. Bonaventure is hitting .195 and has a team ERA of 8.76 through five games.

STRIKE ZONE
 
The last time the Patriots and Bonnies faced each other, Mason swept a three-game series from St. Bonaventure in the first Atlantic 10 series of the season, March 24-25, 2018 at Spuhler Field. 
 
Mason won the first game of the series, 4-0, with Zach Mort tossing a five-hit, complete-game shutout.  He struck out a career-high 13 batters in the game.  The Patriots had 11 hits, all singles.
 
The Patriots then took both games of a doubleheader, 7-6 and 6-0.  Mason scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win in game one, and Brian Marconi scattered three singles over eight innings of work in the night cap.
 
The Patriots are 6-3 all-time against the Bonnies at Spuhler Field.
