Mason Continues Road Swing Saturday at Radford

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University women's lacrosse team continues its early season road tests with a Saturday contest at Radford.

First draw in the Roanoke Valley is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats of Saturday's contest will be available via radfordathletics.com.

LAST TIME OUT
Mason dropped a 19-2 contest at No. 12 James Madison on Wednesday in Harrisonburg. It marked Mason's third-straight contest against a nationally-ranked opponent.

Junior Phoebe Nelson led the Patriot offense with two goals on the day, while also registering a draw control. Sophomore Tristan Usher and senior Christina Romano each tallied an assist on goals by Nelson. Senior Holliston Wagner led the Mason defense with a career-best three ground balls and senior Sasha Silva added a ground ball while registering a career-best four draw controls. In addition, Melanie Hutchinson notched two draw controls and caused a turnover in a strong day for the freshman.

USHERING IN A GREAT START TO THE SEASON
Through three games this season, sophomore Tristan Usher has put together an outstanding start to her campaign. She leads the team in points and has posted at least one point in all of Mason's games. She tallied a season-best two points (1g, 1a) in the Feb. 28 contest at Towson.

Saturday's contest marks the first in program history between the Patriots and Radford

A LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS (0-4, 0-0 BIG SOUTH)
Radford was picked to finish fourth out of seven teams in the 2021 Big South preseason poll. The Highlanders are 0-4 to begin the campaign and coming off an 18-10 setback at Liberty on March 3. Lindsey Carroll leads Radford with 16 points (7g, 9a) on the year, while Margaret Gleason and Jennifer Shield have each contributed eight points. Preseason All-Big South selection Katie Bendrick leads the defense with 15 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls. In the cage, Maddie Bowman has posted an 18.24 goals against average and .263 save percentage.

Mason remains on the road for a contest at No. 8 Virginia on Wednesday (March 10). The 5 p.m. contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
