FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team will open their 2021 slate with a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's on Saturday.

The two-game slate is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET inside George Mason Softball Complex. Coverage of both games can be followed via live stats.

A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS

Mason finished a short 2020 season with an overall record of 7-12. The Patriots finished the year winning four of their final five games before the season was ended due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Green & Gold return nine letterwinners, including two starters from the pitching rotation last season. The Patriots also welcome back junior Taylor Dadig (.354), sophomore Rachel Warrens (.326) and senior Meghan Graham (.311) who all led Mason in batting average in 2020.

Interim head coach Justin Walker enters the 2021 season in his first year in the new role. This will be Walker's fourth year with the Patriots after spending the past three seasons assisting.

SCOUTING SAINTJOSEPH'S (2020: 4-11)

The Hawks' season has started similar to Mason's, a slew of cancelations. Saint Joseph's earned a record of 4-11 in the shortened 2020 season. The Hawks were outscored 74-39 by their opponents last season.

Saint Joseph's hit just .228 as a team last season and recorded a team earned run average (ERA) of 5.29.

The Hawks were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, announced by the conference in February.
