Fairfax, Va. -- Freshman Colin Slater led the George Mason golf team at the Furman Intercollegiate this weekend.

The Austin, Texas native finished with a three-round 221 (+8) at the 6,994-yard, par 71 Furman University's Golf Course. He started the tournament with a scorching five-under-par 66, with eight birdies and three bogeys. He cooled off a little in the second and third rounds carding a 77 and 78.

Nikita Gubenko finished two strokes behind his classmate with a 54-hole 223 (75-73-75). The freshman had Mason's best score in the second and third rounds.Senior Florian Blatti was five-over-par heading into the final round today but a 77 dropped him to tied for 58 overall.  

Host Furman lead from start to finish and edged out Florida Gulf Coast by two stokes. The Patriots finished tied for 13th out of the 17-team field. The Paladins Keller Harper won medalist honors with a six-under-par 207.

Mason travels next to the Heathplan Mountaineer Invitational April 12-13.
