TOWSON, Md. – The George Mason baseball team took a one-run lead into the eighth inning but Towson scored single runs in the final two frames for a walk off victory over the Patriots, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md.
Towson (7-16) took the early lead in the bottom of the first against Mason (4-11) senior starter
Austin Cabone.
Tigers Graduate student right fielder Billy Godrick doubled and with two-outs, senior left fielder Noah Cabrera drove in the first run of the game with a single to center. Freshman catcher Burke Camper then hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence to put the Tigers in front 3-0.
The Mason infielders provided the offense in the top of the second against Towson sophomore starter Nick Ramanjulu.

Daniel Brooks was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shortstop
Brett Stallings grounded into a fielder's choice, with Stoudemire scoring from third to make it a 3-1 game.
The Tigers got the run back in the home half of the inning when sophomore center fielder Javon Fields hit a solo home run with two outs to increase the lead to 4-1.
Cabone, who made his first start of the season and second of his career, gave up just one single over the next three innings. It was his first start since the 2018 season.
In the top of the fifth, designated hitter
Scott Morgan belted his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot over the left-center field fence to pull the Patriots within two runs, 4-2. It was his second home run in the last five games.
Mason scored three runs in the top of the sixth, without a hit in the inning, against three different Tigers pitchers. The Patriots drew three walks, had two batters hit by a pitch and took advantage of a wild pitch.
Brooks was hit by a pitch, Stallings walked and center fielder South Trible got a free pass to load the bases. Left fielder
Cam Reckling walked to force in Brooks from third to trim the Tigers advantage to 4-3.
With two outs, right fielder
Bailey Klein was hit by a pitch, with Stallings coasting home to tie the score, 4-4. The Patriots then took the 5-4 lead when Trimble scrambled across the plate on a wild pitch.
Mason turned the game over to the bullpen for the seventh after the strong outing by Cabone, who finished his day with a career-high 10 strikeouts in a career-high six innings of work.
In the eighth, second baseman Nolan Young walked and Cabrera singled against Mason reliever
Mason Posey to put on first and second. Camper then reached on a fielding error, with Young racing home from second to tie the score, 5-5.
Posey struck out the next three batters to get out of the inning.
Towson loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with a walk, bunt single and intentional walk. Young then ripped a walk-off RBI-single to right field for the 6-5 victory.
The Tigers took three-of-four from the Patriots with three games decided by one run. Three of the four games in the weekend series between the two teams ended with a walk-off, including both games played at Towson.
For the Patriots, Cabone allowed four runs on five hits with just one walk and 10 strikeouts over 6.0 innings in a no-decision. Posey (2-2) gave up two unearned runs on three hits and took the loss.
The Tigers used eight pitchers in the game, including five who retired one batter. Ramanjulu allowed two runs on three hits and struck out five in 5.0 innings. Junior Jake Peciluas (1-2) pitched the ninth to earn the win.
Morgan hit hits fourth home run of the season, Reckling went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Klein and Stallings each drove in a run.
The Patriots host St. Bonaventure for a four-game series Friday, April 2 through Sunday, April at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.
