Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team edged the Towson Tigers, 4-3, in a non-conference match played at the George Mason Tennis Courts.
The Patriots (4-1) won its fourth straight match after dropping its opening match of the 2020-21 season.
"I was very pleased with our performance as a team today," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "We beat a very good Towson squad. It seems like each win someone else steps up, that's a team."
The Patriots won two of the three doubles matches to notch the first point of the match. Towson took a 2-1 lead after winning singles matches at No. 2 and No. 3.
Mason responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 to take a 3-2 lead. Sophomore Paige La defeated Towson's Themis Haliou, 6-4, 6-3, at the top singles position and Ashley Fitz-Patrick defeated the Tigers Lea Kolsanivic, 6-4, 6-2.
The Tigers evened the match at three apiece before the Patriots Jackie Nannery won her match against Jessica Assenmacher in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 to notch the Mason win.
The Patriots are back on the court against Longwood on Saturday, April 3 at the George Mason Tennis Courts.
