FAIRFAX, Va. – For the second time in as many games Friday, the George Mason University women's lacrosse team put together a solid first half but could complete the performance for 60 minutes.
Mason fell to Davidson 16-8 in the Patriots' home opener in Fairfax. Mason trailed by one (7-6) at the break and tied it up (7-7) early in the second stanza, but the Wildcats scored nine of the final 10 goals of the contest to take the win.
The Patriots held a 22-18 edge in ground balls for the game, but Davidson was able to control the final portion of the contest by tallying a 10-2 second-half edge in draw controls.
Senior
Erin Donoghue led the Green & Gold with a season-best four goals to go along with three ground balls and two draw controls. With her second goal of the contest, she became the seventh player in school history to tally 100 career scores.

Phoebe Nelson chipped in a career-best three assists, while senior
Niki Baker added two goals off the bench.
Senior
Christina Romano picked up a team-high four ground balls, while senior
Melissa Capri registered a Mason-best four draw controls and also tallied two ground balls.
Mason took an early 2-1 lead after back-to-back free position scores from Donoghue. Davidson tied it at 2-2, but Baker put two-straight goals in the net off a pair of assists from Nelson to put Mason up 4-2 at the 18:53 mark.
Davidson responded with five-straight scores to build a 7-4 lead, but goals from Donoghue and O'Brien cut the edge to one (7-6) with 23 seconds to go in the first half.
Mason tied it up at 7-7 after a
Deanna Balsama goal just three minutes into the second half, but from there, Davidson went on their run to close out the contest.
The Patriots remain at home to battle VCU on Thursday (April 1) at 4 p.m. in George Mason Stadium.
