TOWSON, Md. – The George Mason baseball team took a two-run lead into the ninth inning, but fell to Towson, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md.

The Tigers scored three runs on three hits, and took advantage of three walks and a throwing error for the walk-off victory.

Mason (3-9) took the lead in the second against Towson (5-15) junior starter Josh Seils.

Mason right fielder Bailey Klein led off with a single and with one out, junior shortstop Peter Nielsen moved Klein to second with a sacrifice bunt.  Graduate student third baseman Cooper Mrowka then singled to left, with Klein racing home to put the Patriots in front 1-0.

Patriots junior starter Jared Lyons cruised along into the ninth.  He allowed one hit, a leadoff double by Towson graduate student outfielder Billy Godrick in the fourth inning.  Lyons took the one-hitter into the ninth.

Towson junior second baseman Nolan Young reached on an error to start the inning and sophomore pinch hitter Matt Arceo walked.  Young was picked off for the first out of the inning, but sophomore first baseman Nick Brown walked to put runners on first and second.

The Patriots made the call to the bullpen, with junior Mason Posey taking over on the mound for Lyons.  The runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, and freshman pinch hitter Burke Camper then drew a walk, with Arceo racing home from third on a wild pitch to cut the Mason lead to 2-1.

Mason summoned junior reliever Stuart Barrett.  With runners on the corners, sophomore catcher Jacob Terao dropped down a squeeze bunt, with pinch runner Nate Mills crossing the plate to tie the score, 2-2.

After an infield single loaded the bases, freshman shortstop Danny Becerra singled through the left side past a drawn-in infield to complete the 3-2 comeback.

For the Patriots, Lyons allowed two runs on one hit and struck out 10 in a season-high 8.1 innings in a no-decision.  Posey (1-1) surrendered a run and took the loss.

For the Tigers, Seils gave up two runs on five hits and struck out seven in 6.1 innings in a no-decision.  Senior reliever Austin Weber (1-0) tossed 1.1 scoreless to earn the win.

Mrowka was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Neilsen went 2-for-3 and scored a run, and graduate student catcher Kyle Hayes knocked in a run for the Patriots.

The Patriots and Tigers continue the weekend series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Spuhler Field.  The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.
