FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team fell in Sunday matinee action to James Madison at the Patriot Tennis Courts, 6-1.
"We battled hard today but we could have done a much better job on the big points," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "The guys are working hard and making improvements but we need more practice in playing their games under pressure and committing to winning and losing on their terms. We have another opportunity to practice it this coming week against the Mount and we're looking forward to it."
Mason's point came courtesy of junior
Rishab Sardana at No. 2 singles. The Union City, Calif., product won his first set over Alvaro Arce, 6-2. He dropped the second, 6-2, but came out on top in a well-played super tiebreaker, 10-8.
The Patriots also received another good effort from freshman
Hayden Postin at No. 6. He nearly won his first set, falling 6-7 to Mario Pena, before Pena went on to win the second set, 6-3.
In doubles, senior
Ryan Charles and sophomore
Rithik Sardana finally dropped a match at No. 1 doubles, falling in a tight contest, 7-5. The Patriot duo is now 5-1 on the year.
Mason returns to action Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest vs. Mt. St. Mary's at the Patriot Tennis Courts.
