Fairfax, Va. -- George Mason women's tennis opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a sweep of La Salle today at the George Mason Tennis Courts.
"Our team seems to be getting better match by match," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "This was a very good way to begin conference play."
The Patriots won the doubles point after winning the top two matches.
Jackie Nannery and
Francesca Trella won a 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles. The team of
Savanna Crowell and
Christine McCarthy defeated the Dragons Jazmin Walle and Aleks Nikolic, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Paige La won 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles position. The Patriots
Brianna Gibbs and
Ashley Fitz-Patrick each won their singles matches, 6-1, 6-2. The only match to go to the tiebreaker set was at No. 2 singles as Mason's
Hannah Yang defeated La Salle's Isa Leano, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
The Patriots will play Mount St. Mary's next on Tuesday, March 23 at the George Mason Tennis Courts.
