FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team put together a complete effort during a 6-1 victory over La Salle on Saturday at the Mason Tennis Courts.
The Patriots swept the three doubles matches, then won five of six singles contests to take the win.
"The guys played really well today," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "We came out and battled and made some great improvements from our last match. We're still a little beat up physically but we competed at a high level today. We're excited for another chance to keep our momentum going against James Madison tomorrow."
Starting the match off in doubles, Mason's stalwart No. 1 combo of senior
Ryan Charles and sophomore
Rithik Sardana made quick work of the Explorers' Gonzalez/Merrill duo, 6-1. Mason's star pair is now 5-0 to begin the season.
Juniors
Rishab Sardana and
Erick Rivas grabbed a win at No. 2 with a 6-2 triumph, while graduate student
Luke Maxwell and sophomore
Momin Khan won their first match together at No. 3, 6-2.
In singles,
Rithik Sardana improved to 3-2 at the top spot this season with a three-set win. He took down Rogelio Gonzalez, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Brother
Rishab Sardana also made work of his opponent at No. 2, defeating Connor Merrill, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 4, sophomore
Momin Khan improved to 3-1 in dual singles this season, defeating Colin Lucius easily in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
Rounding out the singles action, junior
Erick Rivas won at No. 5 over Brandon Caban (6-1, 6-3), while
Hayden Postin improved to 2-0 on the year with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Dylan Tull at No. 6.
Mason wraps up the weekend with a home match vs. James Madison on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Mason Tennis Courts.
