FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's lacrosse team kicks off Atlantic 10 play Saturday with a contest at Revolutionary Rival George Washington.
First draw between the Patriots and Colonials on GW's Mt. Vernon campus is set for 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats also available via gwsports.com.
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots had a taste of the lead but could not muster enough goals to pull off the upset, falling to No. 8 Virginia in Charlottesville on March 10. Mason led 2-1 and tied it up at 3-3 at the 20:51 mark of the first half. But Virginia created some cushion with a 6-1 run to end the first half and were able to separate a bit more in the second half. The game marked Mason's fourth against a nationally-ranked team in five contests so far this season.
Balsama led the Patriots with a hat trick, marking her highest goal output of the season. The Sewell, N.J., product also registered a team-best four draw controls.
DONOHUE MAKING IMMEDIATE IMPACT
For the second-straight contest, freshman
Mason Donohue stepped up their game in the cage, tallying 10 saves in a full 60 minutes against the Cavaliers. Including Saturday's win at Radford, Donohue is averaging 11.5 saves over the past two contests.

Saturday's contest marks the 19
th all time meeting between Mason and George Washington in lacrosse. The Patriots lead the series, 15-3, and have won five straight against the Colonials. In the most recent matchup, Mason won 15-10 on April 14, 2019, in Fairfax. Then-freshman
Deanna Balsama tallied six points (5g, 1a) and seven draw controls in the win, while
Erin Donoghue added two goals, an assist and five draw controls.
A LOOK AT THE COLONIALS
GW is 3-2 to begin the season, including a 10-goal triumph over Old Dominion (16-6) on March 6. Senior Joanna Mantzouratos leads the team with 12 points (10g, 2a) while Amber Germer (8g, 1a) and Catie Perkins (7g, 2a) have each notched nine points. Perkins also has tallied a team-best 28 draw controls and 12 ground balls. Junior Megan Patrick has registered a 15.24 goals against average and .432 save percentage in 279:34 in the cage.
REVOLUTIONARY RIVALRY
Mason currently leads the all-sport, 2020-21 Revolutionary Rivalry series, 6.5-4.5. That includes two wins for men's basketball, two for women's volleyball, one for women's soccer and a head-to-head A-10 triumph for men's cross country.
