BALTIMORE, Md. – The George Mason baseball team fell to UMBC, 13-7, on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field in Baltimore.
Mason (2-6) took an early lead with four runs in the top of the first against UMBC (5-0) senior starter Joe Nestel.

Scott Morgan hit his first home run of the season, a blast over the left field fence to put the Patriots in front 2-0.

Bailey Klein kept the inning going with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, graduate student first baseman
Ryan Stoudemire drew a walk to put runners on first and second.

Kyle Hayes drove in a run with a single, with Klein racing around from second base to increase the lead to 3-0. Second baseman
Daniel Brooks followed with a RBI-single to drive in Stoudemire to make the score 4-0.

James Beasley was forced to leave the game in the first inning with an injury, with
Stuart Barrett taking over on the mound.
UMBC cut the lead in half with two outs in the bottom of the second. Junior outfielder Ethan Wentlaff walked and stole second. Freshman infielder Drew Roberts followed with a RBI-single. Roberts then stole second, and came around to score on two Mason errors to make it a 4-2 game.
In the top of the third, Stoudemire walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Hayes drew a walk, the Retrievers made the call to the bullpen and brought in junior Reid Celata. Brooks greeted the new pitcher with a single, with Stoudemire crossing the plate to increase the Mason advantage to 5-2.
UMBC scored 10 unanswered runs from the third through the fifth inning.
Retrievers sophomore Michael Cilio knocked in a run with a two-out double in the third and junior outfielder Christian Easley delivered a RBI-single in the fourth to trim the Patriots lead to 5-4. Easley drove in four runs in the game.
UMBC took control of the game in the home half of the fifth. The Retrievers sent 13 batters against three Mason pitchers and plated eight runs on five hits to take the lead, 12-5. UMBC sophomore outfielder Adam Schwartz had the big hit with a grand slam off of Patriots reliever
Austin Cabone.
The Patriots scored a single run in the sixth when Morgan hit his second home run of the game, and Klein drove in his first run of the season with a single eighth.
Schwartz hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot in the seventh for the Retrievers. He drove in five runs in the game.
The Patriots used six pitchers in the game.
Stuart Barrett allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and struck out four with three walks in 2.2 innings. Junior
Matthew Henson (0-1) gave up four runs on four hits and struck out two in 1.2 innings in his Mason debut and took the loss.

Jonathan Kaiser surrendered four runs on one hit and two walks. Cabone allowed two runs on three hits in 3.0 inning, while junior
Hugh O'Hara retired the two batters he faced.
For the Retrievers, Nestel allowed five runs on five hits in 2.0 innings. Celata (2-0) gave up one run on five hits in 4.1 innings of work to earn the win. Senior Keegan Leffler surrendered one run in 1.2 innings, and freshman Luke Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth.
Every player in the starting lineup for the Retrievers scored at least one run in the game.
The Patriots are back in action on Friday, March 19, against Old Dominion with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
