FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team begins the 2022 portion of the season with four wrestlers competing at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Jan. 1-2 at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
Alex Madrigal competed in the 2020 Southern Scuffle, advancing to the quarterfinals at 141 pounds. The grad student is pre-seeded fifth at 149 pounds with a 10-1 record. His only setback is a 6-0 decision to Appalachian State's Jonathan Millner, who is pre-seeded second and ranked #5 by Intermat Wrestling. Madrigal ranked #26 could see action against #7 Josh Finesliver (Duke), #13 Jaden Abas (Stanford) and Missouri's Josh Edmond #22.

Sophomore Tyler Kocak (11-7) and redshirt sophomore Drew Dickson (6-7) will compete at 165 pounds, while senior Paul Pierce will wrestle unattached at 174 pounds.
