Davidson, N.C. – After dropping the first two matches in Boiling Springs, N.C., the Patriots (5-3) defeated Davidson to finish with a 1-2 record in three duals competed today in North Carolina.
Mason opened its MAC schedule today with a 27-9 setback against Ohio. In the second match, Gardner-Webb defeated the Patriots 22-14. Both matches were held at Gardner Webb's Paul Porter arena.
After traveling a little over an hour to Davidson, N.C., the Patriots defeated Davidson 25-18, extending the Green and Gold's winning streak to seven against the Wildcats.
Mason's
Alex Madrigal (149) won all three matches to improve to 10-1. In the first match against Ohio's Alec Hagen he earned a 9-3 decision. The 2020 NCAA technical falls winner earned his third and fourth technical falls of the season, defeating Gardner-Webb's Corbin Dion, 22-7 (6:46) and against Davidson's David Loniewski, (TF 21-4, 6:15).

Tyler Kocak (165) and
Logan Messer (174) finished with 2-1 records.
Cassidy went 1-1 in the first two matches in Boiling Springs, N.C. Ohio's Kyran Hagan defeated Cassidy, 5-3. In the second match, the freshman earned a 5-2 decision against the Runnin Bulldog's Tevon Majette. He earned his second fall of the season in the nightcap against Davidson's Gavin Damasco (4:13). The freshman improves to 12-3.
Kocak split the first two matches with close decisions. He defeated Ohio's Sean O'Dwyer 5-2 and dropped the match to Gardner Webb's Rodrick Mosley, 2-0. At Davidson, Kocak won 4-2 against Jaden Hardrick.
Messer lost a close, 4-3, decision against #24 Sal Perrine from Ohio in the first match of the day. He rebounded with a 9-5 decision against Gardner-Webb's Evan Schenk, and a technical fall against Davidson's Steven Newell, 18-2, (4:35). The freshman improves to an impressive 18-4 record.
