The Patriot Club honored its endowed scholarship donors and student-athlete recipients at a reception at the Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Dec. 7. The donors were also recognized on court during the men's basketball against Navy later that evening.
 
Donors to Mason Athletics, Mason student-athletes, coaches and administrators were present at this unique event, which provides the opportunity to recognize and thank the many individuals, members of the George Mason community and organizations in the Northern Virginia area, who have made generous contributions to establish and support endowed funds.
 
"We are very grateful to our loyal supporters who have made an impact in the lives of our student-athletes through establishing endowed scholarships," said Athletic Director Brad Edwards. "We look forward to this annual event that provides us an opportunity to express our gratitude to our donors for their remarkable commitment.  This is a great way for our donors to engage with the student-athletes who are directly impacted from their generosity."
 
As we aspire for success in academics and athletics, our more than 400 student-athletes are more reliant than ever on private financial support. We seek scholarship support for all of our programs enabling our coaches to recruit the best student-athletes in the country. Our goal is to fill the gap between the levels of currently funded scholarship in our 22 sports ($5.5 million) and the maximum number allowed by the NCAA ($8 million).

Each of the student-athlete endowed scholarship recipients were carefully selected to fulfill the criteria specific to each endowment, as defined by the endowment donors. Academic year and standing, athletic merits, declared major course of study and residency are examples of the criteria that were considered by the selection committee.
  
The Mason Athletic Department extends appreciation to these donors for their impactful investment in the long-term academic and athletic excellence of Mason student-athletes.
