FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the Patriot Invitational, with both teams in fifth place after day two of the three-day event held at the Jim McKay Natatorium.

On the women's side, Delaware remained in the lead (616), with Florida Atlantic second (506) and Drexel third (498).  Seton Hall is fourth (352), followed by George Mason (340.5), Richmond (227.5) and American (214).

Freshman Ali Tyler set a new meet record in the 400-yard IM by more than two seconds, winning the event with a time of 4:13.02.  Freshman Anna Whelan just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish (4:26.16).

The previous meet record was a time of 4:15.65, set on Nov. 22, 2008 by Ashley Danner.

Tyler was fifth in the A-Final of the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.47), while freshman Emma DeJong touched the wall fourth in the B-Final (1:05.59).

In the A-Final of the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Shannon Judge placed fifth (56.86) and classmate Anna Whelan was eighth (58.04).  Senior Hannah Milikich placed first in the C-Final of the event (58.81).

The Patriots also set a new meet record in the 800-yard freestyle relay, besting the previous mark by over five seconds.  The team of seniors Jacquee Clabeaux and Laura Hodge, along with DeJong and Tyler, took the top spot with a time of 7:24.76.

The previous meet record was set on Nov. 22, 2019 by the Patriots.

Clabeaux took fourth in the A-Final 100-yard butterfly (55.44).  Sophomore Abigail Murtaugh was third in the B-Final of the event (56.12).

Senior Laura Hodge swam to a fourth-place finish in the B-Final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.12), while junior Lauren Ashton was fourth in the C-Final (1:55.27).

Freshman Michaela Teachey was seventh in the B-Final of the event (4:33.09).  In the C-Final, senior Sophie McKinley placed second (4:33.08), freshman Kat Diatchenko was fifth (4:36.72) and junior Megan Mastropaolo finished seventh (4:39.02).

In the 200-yard medley relay, the group of junior Haley Butcher, freshmen Daphne Bernal, Judge and Murtaugh placed 10th (1:47.20).

On the men's side, Florida Atlantic remained in first place (656.5), with Delaware second (507) and Seton Hall third (472).  Drexel is fourth (425.5), followed by George Mason (416) and American (202).

The combination of senior Will Rastatter, junior Sammy Lucht, sophomore Sorab Aman and freshman Alexander Franklin placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.74).

Aman finished sixth (49.54) and Franklin eighth (50.90) in the A-Final of the 100-yard butterfly.  In the B-Final, senior Jared Bergan was third (50.24) and junior Josh Fletcher fourth (50.30).  Franklin also posted a fifth-place finish in the A-Final of the 100-yard backstroke (49.66).

Sophomore Anthony Nguyen placed fourth in the A-Final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.80).

Junior Thomas Chapman finished sixth in the A-Final of the 400-yard IM (4:03.50).  Freshman Nicholas Maranto placed fourth in the B-Final (4:08.24) and senior Timothy McKinley was third in the C-Final of the event (4:09.36).

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of junior Walter Turlington, freshman Zane Roberts, Chapman and Nguyen registered a fourth-place finish (6:49.91).

In the deep end of the pool, sophomore Ian Castegnaro was sixth in the one-meter diving event with a score of 229.15.

The final day of competition is Saturday, with the prelims scheduled for 10 a.m. and finals slated for 6 p.m.
