FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams compete in their first dual meet of the season, taking on Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. at Rawstrom Natatorium in Newark, Del.

The two teams met last season when the Patriots hosted Delaware, George Washington, Richmond and William & Mary on Feb. 21, 2021 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax.
Â
The Patriots' men's team posted eight top times, while the women's team won four events.
Â
On the men's side, Mason went one-two in the 200-yard IM, with
Anthony Nguyen first (1:50.83) and
Sammy Lucht second (1:52.62). Nguyen also won the 100-yard freestyle (45.59), with
Josh Fletcher second (45.73).

Dylan Nguyen took the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.86),
Timothy McKinley touched the wall first in the 400-yard IM (4:06.99) and
Jackson Knouse won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:22.66).

In the one-meter dive,
Ian Castegnaro placed second (224.78) and
Indigo Flynch third (189.08). In the three-meter event, Flynch took second (227.25) and Castegnaro was third (224.33).

On the women's side,
Jacquee Clabeaux took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.41),
Abigail Murtaugh won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.12), and Mason also won the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Laura Hodge took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.72), with Lauren Aston third (1:56.39).Â
Leah Riley placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (57.08), while
Megan Mastropaolo placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.66) and was third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.05).

In the 100-yard freestyle,
Emily Lewantowicz touched the wall third (53.02) and
Megan Cummins recorded a fourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle (17.35.54).

Mason and Delaware last met in a dual meet on Oct. 5, 2019 at Rawstrom Natatorium in Newark. The Patriots' men's team won 13 events and defeated the Blue Hens, 203-97, while the Mason women's team won two events and fell, 204.5-75.5

The Patriots schedule includes the Potomac Relay Invitational (Sept. 24), at Delaware (Oct. 9), Richmond Duals (Oct. 22-23), A-10 Classic (Oct. 30-31), Patriot Invitational (Nov. 18-20), Old Dominion (Jan. 29) and the Atlantic 10 Championships (Feb. 16-20).

SCOUTING DELWARE
Â
Delaware swept UMBC and John's Hopkins in a tri-meet on Oct. 2 at the UMBC Aquatic Complex in Baltimore, Md.
Â
The women's team defeated UMBC (171-129) and John's Hopkin's (173-127). The men's squad downed UMBC (169-131) and John's Hopkin's (158-138).

Junior Mira Selling won four events, the 100-yard freestyle (51.42), 500-yard freestyle (5:09.57), 1000-yard freestyle (10:32.02) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.97).

Freshman Gavin Currie touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.89), while D.J. Fechtman won the 100-yard backstroke (52.26).

The Blue Hens return 24 student-athletes and adds eight newcomers on the women's side. The men's team has 23 student-athletes return from last season and welcomes nine to the roster for the 2021-22 campaign.

Last season, Bryce Cieko won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship in the 500-yard freestyle (4:27.89). Â
Selling won two individual championships, claiming the CAA title in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.29) and 200-yard butterfly (1:59.61). Julia Servas was named CAA Rookie Diver of the Year last season.
