FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason wrestling team held its annual wrestle-offs this evening at the RAC. A total of 15 matches were wrestled.
Kaden Cassidy proved why he was a Top 100 recruit. The freshman earned a technical fall (20-4) against Nate Higley at 141-pounds. In the final match of the evening, Cassidy won in a tech fall against
Shawn Nonaka, 16-0.
Four wrestlers battled at 133 pounds. Freshman
Michael Rapuano and
Anthony Glasl earned major decisions against
Luke Albanese, 14-3, and
Cole Anders, 13-3, respectively. In the championship match Glasl and Rapuano were even at 5-5, with Glasl going on to sudden victory, 7-5.
Alex Madrigral picked up where he left off in 2019-20. The grad student won by fall against
Kalob Jewett.
At 165-pound,
Drew Dickson took an early 2-1 lead against Loranzo Rajaonarievio at the end of the first period. After three periods the two grapplers were even at 4-4. There were no points earned in the first overtime. Each wrestle earned an escape point in the 30-second overtimes, but Dickson won the riding point and the match, 6-5.

The bout at 285 between Jon List and
Ramses Montalvo was tied at 1-1 late in the third period. List won in dramatic fashion with a takedown at the buzzer, defeating Montalvo, 3-1.
The Grey defeated the Black team, 31-25.
The Patriots open the season on Sunday, November 7 at the South East Open in Roanoke, Va.
