FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams will face conference opponents this weekend, competing at the A-10 Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the SPIRE institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Â
The Mason women's team will compete against Duquesne, Oakland and St. Bonaventure, while the men's team will face Oakland and St. Bonaventure.
Â
The women's team defeated East Carolina, 166-105, last weekend at the Richmond Duals for its first win of the season, while the men's team will look for its first dual victory of the 2021-22
campaign.
Â
At the 2019 A-10 Classic, the men's team finished with a perfect 3-0 dual record for the second straight year at the event, defeating La Salle (220-133), Saint Louis (278-71) and St. Bonaventure (267.5-85.5).

The Mason women's team claimed a victory over La Salle (191-149), but fell to Duquesne, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.

The last time the Patriots competed in the A-10 Classic,
Jacquee Clabeaux won the 50-yard freestyle (23.77) and 100-yard freestyle (51.99), and placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.76).

Ariana Lewis, Shannon Glesing,
Grace Newton and Clabeaux combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.65). The team of Clabeaux, Glesing, Lewis, and
Leah Riley claimed the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.87). Â

Laura Hodge won the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.38) and was fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.03).

Hannah Milikich was second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.76) and
Lauren Ashton placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.28).Â
Â
Hodge took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.60), Riley placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (58.52), and
Emily Lewantowicz touched the wall fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.92).

On the men's side at the 2019 A-10 Classic, Attila Kiss won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:09.36), with
Jackson Knouse placing third in the event (16:57.81). Kiss also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.62), winning the event for the third straight year.

The team of Ryan Donnelly, Christopher Stankiewicz,
Nick Ashton and
Will Rastatter won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.43).

Drake Moretz placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.41), with Rastatter fifth (46.41).

Thomas Chapman touched the wall second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.65),
Sam Westmont placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.22) and
Sammy Lucht finished sixth in the 400-yard IM (4:10.70).

The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the SPIRE Institute on 16-19, 2022.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE
The Dukes have won their first two duals of the season, defeating James Madison (176.5-123.5) on Oct. 22 and Saint Francis (151-96) on Oct. 23 at Towers Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Duquesne won 13 of 16 events against four-time Colonial Athletic Association champion James Madison on Friday.

Graduate student Mendy De Rooi recorded a team-high four first-place finishes in her debut, winning the 50-yard freestyle (23.99), 100-yard freestyle (52.41), 100-yard butterfly (56.22) and was part of the 400-yard medley relay team (3:51.47).

The Dukes won all 14 events against Saint Francis on Saturday, with 10 different swimmers winning at least one event.

Junior Katelyn Harkrader placed first in both the 100-yard backstroke (59.34) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.62).

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland swept a pair of duals against Xavier on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Oakland Aquatics Center. The Golden Grizzlies men's team defeated the Musketeers 155-107, while the women's team earned a 157-105 victory.

The women's team also recorded a 186.5-113.5 win over Toledo last weekend.

Junior Marko Khotynetskyi was named Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week after winning four events against Xavier. He won the 100-yard backstroke (49.28) and 200-yard backstroke (1:49.02), and was on both the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:30.02) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:01.92).

Senior Susan LaGrand was selected Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week after winning five events last weekend. Â She took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly (56.13), 100-yard IM (57.44), 200-yard IM (2:04.36) and 100-yard backstroke (55.20).

Freshman Jordyn Shipps won both the 100-yard backstroke (56.93) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.37).

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
Â
The Bonnies men's team placed first and the women's team placed third at the two-day Colgate Invitational last weekend.
Â
Freshman diver Zyad Morsy won his first two collegiate events, placing first in both the one-meter (305.15) and three-meter (337.50).
Â
Senior Alec Thomas won both the 100-yard freestyle (46.90) and 200-yard freestyle (1:45.43). Sophomore Kyle Gluck took first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.32).

Senior Rachel Kimmel won three events, taking the top spot in the 400-yard IM (4:34.50) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.82). She also broke a pool record that was set in 1996 with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.70).
