Amber Verstynen Recipient of the OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason softball student-athlete Amber Verstynen has been selected as a recipient of the George Mason OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award, an honor that recognizes outstanding student-athletes for their efforts in the classroom and out in the community.
 
The Yorktown, Va. native was honored at the George Mason women's basketball game against Richmond on Sunday.

Academically, Verstynen consistently earns top grades and has been recognized on the Dean's List for multiple semesters representing the best of what Mason Athletics asks out of its student-athletes.
 
Among her academic accomplishments, Verstynen serves as the President of the GMU American Meteorological Society Student Chapter, the Secretary for Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the George Mason Athletics Representative for the Atlantic 10 Council.

Under the outfielder's extraordinary student leadership, Verstynen has been able to lead her team to record levels of community service and ensured that each softball student-athlete was registered to vote for the 2020 election.
 
She participates in additional community service by volunteering with Mason Athletics' community relations department at events such as Athletics' Elementary School Day and the City of Fairfax's "Rock The Block" events.
 

OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Definition:
 
The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student-athletes not just for their athletic performances. The student-athlete can be recognized for anything that they have done that exceptional outside their playing field… whether it be community service, leadership on campus, consistent performance in the classroom, incredible attitude, recovering from a long injury, improvement on the field, etc.
