Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. – After a hot start to the day, the George Mason men's golf team cooled off some, but manage to finish the first 36 holes in fifth place heading into the final round tomorrow of the Orlando Invitational held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club.
Mason was in second place after the opening round with a team score of 305, just one stroke off the first-round leader Youngstown State. A second-round 322 dropped the Patriots back to fifth place in the 11-team field.
The Patriots were led by
JP Miller, carding a team-best 74 on the par 72, 6,793-yard El Campeon course. He was three-over on the front nine, but a birdie on the 10th hole and eight straight pars gave him the two-over-par finish.

Hayden Miller each carded identical (76-81=157) scores to remain one stroke behind
JP Miller.
Wright State leads the field going into the final round, 10 strokes ahead of Youngstown State and Illinois- Wesleyan, who are tied for second place. Wright State shot 17 strokes better than its first-round score of 309.
Youngstown State's Ken Keller is atop the leaderboard with a two-over-par 146. Tyler Goecke from Wright State is two strokes behind, scoring a 70, the best round of the day, in the second round.
The final round of the tournament will start at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Patriots will host the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular for the eighth straight year at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, March 14-15.
