RADFORD, Va. – The George Mason baseball team is on the road for a pair of midweek, non-conference games. The Patriots face Radford at Carter Memorial Stadium in Radford, Va. on Tuesday, March 10 with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. and Virginia Tech at English Field in Blacksburg, Va. on Wednesday, March 11 with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
Last time out, Mason (1-12) dropped the final game of its three-game series against Winthrop, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

Jackson Barrett reached base all four of his plate appearances, with a single and three walks in the game. The Patriots had six hits, all singles. The Eagles scored six runs on seven hits in the game.

SCOUTING RADFORD

The Highlanders began the season with a three-game sweep on the road at North Carolina Central (Feb. 14-16). After dropping seven of the next eight games, Radford enters Tuesday's game with a four-game winning streak.
The Highlanders defeated Norfolk State, 14-8 (March 3) and swept three games from Canisius by final scores of 14-6, 8-2 and 12-2 (Mar. 6-8).
Radford senior infielder Colby Higgerson was named the Big South Player of the Week on Monday. He batted .647 (11-for-17) with two doubles, a triple, five RBI and nine runs scored to help the Highlanders win all four of their games during the week.
Higgerson leads the team in average (.448) and hits (26) and is tied for first on the club in RBI (14) in 15 games played.
Senior infielder J.D. Mundy leads the team in home runs (3) and is tied the first on the club in RBI (14). He is second on the team in average (.368), hits (21) and doubles (4).
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
Virginia Tech has an overall record of 9-5, including a mark of 1-2 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. The Hokies are 6-0 at home, 3-3 on the road and 0-2 in games played at a neutral site.
The Hokies opened ACC play this past weekend, dropping two-of-three games against No. 29 Georgia Tech at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. The Yellow Jackets won the first two games of the series, 4-3 and 7-5. The Hokies won the final game, 7-6, in 10 innings.
Freshman outfielder Gavin Cross is batting .379 and leads the team hits (22) and is second in runs scored (12) in 14 games played. Sophomore catcher Carson Taylor is hitting .367 and leads the club in RBI (13) and runs scored (13) and is second on the team in hits (18) in 14 games played.
On the mound, junior starter Ian Seymour (3-0, 2.21) was selected as one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week. He struck out a career-high 14 batters against Georgia Tech on Sunday, recording the most strikeouts by a Hokie pitcher in an ACC regular-season game in program history. Seymour ranks 18th in the nation in strikeouts.
